WhereWhereWhere?

HowHowHow?

1) Sign the Consent Form

If you are 21 and above, just come down and sign it yourself.

2) Register at COM1
Collect survey questionnaire and mouthwash tube.

3) Take the Skin-Prick Test and provide dermal patch sample. The result of the Skin-Prick Test will be known 20 minutes later.

4) Meanwhile, fill up the Questionnaire and follow instructions to perform your mouthwash.

5) 20 Minutes should be up. Let our trained professionals tell you your results.

6) Kindly submit your mouthwash samples and questionnaires to the Check-out counter. Our friendly receptionist will be consolidating and verifying the data.

7) Before you leave, remember to collect your $10 voucher^^.
THANK YOU! Remember to come with all your friends!

The more the merrier. But the target for Arts + Biz + Com Collection is 1000 samples (see our counter on top left!)

3.) Who is eligible?

BACKGROUND INFO

Allergic diseases such as allergic rhinitis, asthma, atopic dermatitis and eczema represent a global health problem, affecting 10-25% of the world population. A genetic background, specifically a family history of atopic disease, has been the strongest risk factor for the development of allergic symptoms, irrespective of the varying prevalence and environmental risk factors in different societies. This research project will be carried out by a research team with multiple expertises in clinical allergy, molecular biology and immunology, population genetics, epidemiology, data-mining and integration. The main objectives include the ascertainment of a large clinically and epidemiologically well-characterized demographically matched case-control cohort (of 1000 allergic and 1000 non-allergic subjects), which will be employed to provide sufficient statistical power for identification of major atopic susceptibility genes in our population. This will be among the first genome-wide screening study in the field of allergy that will help identify key genes or haplotypes that are associated with allergic phenotypes.

Skin Prick Test

1. Lower left arm (vice versa for left-handers) is swabbed with alcohol solution to clean the surface.

2. Six small dots are marked on arm using a pen.

3. 4 types of common allergens, 1 positive (histamine) control and 1 negative (saline) control are dripped near the dots.

4. Sterile lancets are used to make extremely small, light scratches on the skin where the 6 drops are.

5. You will have to wait for 15 min (during which you can complete the questionnaire). Please do not flex or move your arm excessively.

6. After 15 min, the length of each weal (bump) and flare is measured and recorded. From this, we can tell which allergens you are sensitive to.
